A salsa lesson built around you.
Group classes are a great way to learn salsa, but sometimes you want more time on one particular problem, more individual feedback or the opportunity to progress at your own pace.
Private salsa lessons give us the freedom to focus entirely on what you need.
There is no fixed private lesson syllabus that you have to follow. We can spend the whole hour working on timing. We can break down your basic step. We can look at why a particular turn isn't working, improve your lead or follow, work on shines, practise partnerwork, explore musicality or simply go through something that confused you in class.
If you're a complete beginner, we can start from the very beginning and move at a pace that feels comfortable. If you've already been dancing for months or years, we can identify the areas that are holding you back and work on those in much greater detail.
The objective is simple: use the hour where it will be most useful to you.
Private lessons with James.
Your private lesson will be taught personally by James through Inspire Mambo.
Instead of trying to keep pace with a whole class, you'll have the time to stop, ask questions, repeat movements and work through anything that isn't making sense.
We'll identify what you're trying to achieve and structure the lesson around that — whether that's becoming more comfortable as a beginner, improving your technique or becoming a more confident social dancer.
More time. More feedback. More focus.
Private lessons let us slow things down, concentrate on the details and spend the entire session working on your individual dancing.
Personal feedback
Instead of general feedback to an entire class, we can look specifically at your movement, timing, technique and habits.
Work at your pace
Spend longer on something difficult or move quickly through things you already understand. The lesson adapts to you.
Focus on your goals
You don't have to follow the topic of a weekly group class. We can concentrate on the areas that matter most to your dancing.
Ask questions
Stop whenever you need to. Ask why something works, repeat it and explore the detail without worrying about holding up a class.
Fix specific problems
If there's one particular movement, habit or technique that keeps causing problems, we can spend focused time solving it.
Build confidence
Practising in a focused environment can make movements feel much more comfortable before you take them back into group classes or social dancing.
What can we work on?
Almost anything. You can arrive with a specific topic in mind or tell me what you're struggling with and we can work out where the lesson would be most useful.
Basic step
Improve weight transfer, balance, timing and the foundations of your salsa movement.
Salsa timing
Understand the counts, hear the music more clearly and stay on time while dancing.
On1 & On2 timing
Understand the differences and work on becoming comfortable with either timing.
Leader technique
Improve clarity, preparation, direction, connection and confidence when leading.
Follower technique
Develop responsiveness, balance, turns, connection and movement without anticipating.
Partner connection
Work on frame, tension, communication and making partnerwork feel more natural.
Cross-body lead
Break down one of the key structures used throughout linear salsa.
Inside & outside turns
Improve preparation, technique, timing and control through common partner turns.
Right & left turns
Improve your individual turn technique and make turns more balanced and controlled.
Shines & footwork
Build coordination, rhythm, confidence and vocabulary when dancing independently.
Body movement
Explore how your body moves through salsa rather than concentrating only on the steps.
Spinning technique
Work on spotting, balance, preparation and control for cleaner turns and spins.
Musicality
Start interpreting the music rather than simply completing patterns over the counts.
Social dancing
Work on making your dancing more adaptable, comfortable and enjoyable with different partners.
Pattern development
Learn how movements connect together rather than relying on memorised sequences.
Specific combinations
Bring something you've learned elsewhere and we can break down the sections causing difficulty.
Beginner fundamentals
Start from scratch in a completely private environment before joining group classes.
Confidence
Work through movements repeatedly until they begin to feel comfortable rather than rushed.
Dance-floor problems
Tell me what keeps going wrong socially and we'll diagnose what's happening.
Your own topic
If there's something else you want to work on, simply tell me before the lesson.
Your lesson. Your priorities.
You don't need to choose from a fixed menu when you book.
Before the lesson, tell me what you'd like to work on. If you're unsure, that's fine too — we can dance together, identify the areas that would make the biggest difference and build the session from there.
We might spend the whole hour on one detail. Or we might cover several related areas. The lesson can change as we discover what you actually need.
You don't need to be advanced.
Private tuition can be useful at almost any stage of your salsa journey.

A few common questions about private salsa lessons with Inspire Mambo.
How much is a private salsa lesson?
Private salsa lessons with James are £60 for a 60-minute lesson.
Do I need any salsa experience?
No. Complete beginners are welcome and we can start with the fundamentals.
Can I choose what we work on?
Yes. The lesson can focus on any area of salsa that you want to improve.
What if I don't know what I need to improve?
That's fine. We can dance together, identify the areas causing the biggest problems and work from there.
Can we work on something from my group class?
Absolutely. Private lessons are ideal for revisiting movements or concepts that you haven't fully understood in a group setting.
Can I work on On1 or On2?
Yes. Lessons can focus on timing, movement and partnerwork within either approach depending on your goals.
Do I need to book multiple lessons?
No. You can book a single lesson to address something specific and decide afterwards whether you'd like another.
Can private lessons work alongside group classes?
Yes. A combination of group classes, social dancing and occasional private tuition can work particularly well because each gives you something different.
