Beginner salsa classes are coming to Epsom.
Register your interest now and we will let you know when Epsom registration opens, together with the confirmed venue, class day and timetable.
Starting salsa can feel intimidating when you don't know what to expect. You might assume everybody else already knows how to dance, that you need to arrive with a partner, or that salsa classes are mainly for people who already have rhythm and confidence.
That's not how we want Inspire Mambo to feel.
The planned Epsom classes will help people learn progressively. We will start with the fundamentals, explain how the music and timing work, develop the basic movements and then gradually introduce partnerwork, turns and combinations.
The objective isn't simply to memorise a sequence of moves for an hour. It's to help you develop the skills that eventually allow you to dance naturally with different people and enjoy salsa socially.
You can arrive as a complete beginner. You don't need special dance clothes. You don't need salsa shoes for your first class. And you don't need to bring somebody with you.
Your future Epsom salsa night.
The planned Epsom night will combine structured learning with time to practise. The final format, venue and timetable will be announced before registration opens.
Structured classes
The Epsom programme is planned as a progressive weekly course rather than disconnected one-off sessions.
Partner rotation
Meet and dance with different people throughout the class. You don't need to bring your own partner.
Practice time
Use the social and practice portion of the evening to repeat what you've just learned and build confidence.
How the Epsom evening is expected to work.
The Epsom launch is being designed around structured teaching, guided practice and social dancing. Final timings will be confirmed before classes begin.
CLASS ONE
Beginner Foundations
Start with salsa timing, basic footwork, coordination, technique and clear partnerwork. This class is suitable for complete beginners as well as dancers who want to strengthen their foundations.
GUIDED PRACTICE
Practise and Ask Questions
Practise what you have just learned, change partners, ask questions and become more comfortable with the movements before the next class.
CLASS TWO
Progression Class
Develop the fundamentals with more detailed partnerwork, technique and combinations. This class is for dancers ready to progress beyond the first steps.
PRACTICE & SOCIAL
Social Dancing and Practice
Put the evening's material into practice in a relaxed environment. Dance with different people, repeat the movements and build confidence through real dancing.
More than memorising routines.
Our classes develop the individual and partner skills that make salsa work, so you understand what you are doing rather than simply copying a sequence.
Footwork and Timing
Develop your timing, rhythm, balance, coordination and confidence through individual footwork before applying those skills with a partner.
Partnerwork
Learn how leading and following work through connection, preparation, direction and clear technique. Partners rotate throughout the class, so you can attend by yourself.
Practice and Progression
Repetition helps new movements become natural. Practice time lets you consolidate what you have learned before gradually adding more.

Never danced salsa before?
That's exactly what beginner salsa lessons are for. You don't need to practise before arriving and you don't need to understand salsa music already.
During your first classes, we'll help you understand the basic salsa rhythm, how your steps fit to the music and how simple partner movements work.
Learning salsa takes repetition. Things that feel unfamiliar during your first lesson gradually become more natural as you repeat them.
Build strong salsa foundations.
Good social dancing starts with fundamentals. We build those fundamentals progressively rather than rushing through complicated combinations.
Timing & basic step
Learn where the salsa counts sit in the music and how to move comfortably through the basic step.
Turns & movement
Develop simple turns, changes of direction and the coordination needed to make your dancing feel more natural.
Partnerwork
Learn how leaders and followers communicate through movement, timing and connection.
Cross-body lead
Build one of the fundamental structures used throughout linear salsa dancing.
Social dancing skills
Learn how to use movements with different partners rather than simply memorising classroom choreography.
Confidence
The more regularly you dance, the less you'll have to consciously think about every individual step.
Learn. Move. Connect.
People start salsa for all sorts of reasons. Some want to learn a new skill. Some want a social activity. Others want something more interesting than another evening at the gym.
Learn a skill
Build something over time rather than just attending a one-off activity.
Meet people
Partner rotation and social dancing make salsa naturally social.
Stay active
Dancing gets you moving without necessarily feeling like a conventional workout.
Build confidence
Progress from learning your first basic step to dancing socially with different partners.
Salsa in Epsom & nearby areas.
Inspire Mambo is planning a new local salsa night for people across Epsom and the surrounding Surrey area.
The aim is to choose an accessible Epsom venue for people travelling from nearby areas such as Ewell, Stoneleigh, Ashtead, Leatherhead, Tadworth, Banstead and Chessington.
Inspire Mambo's weekly Sutton classes are already live. You can join Sutton now, or register your interest in Epsom and wait for the new local night to launch.
The Epsom venue is being confirmed.
We are working toward an accessible venue in Epsom. People on the interest list will receive the location, opening date and timetable before public registration begins.
A new Epsom salsa night
Venue and opening date to be announced.
What should you expect?
Your first class should feel approachable. You don't have to arrive knowing any salsa — we'll start from the beginning.
01
Arrive
Arrive a little early, get comfortable and let us know if this is your first ever salsa class.
02
Learn the basics
We'll introduce the salsa timing, basic step and simple movements progressively.
03
Partner up
You'll practise partnerwork and normally rotate so you learn with different people.
04
Practise
Stay afterwards, repeat what you've learned and start building real dancing confidence.
Do I need a partner for salsa lessons in Epsom?
No. When Inspire Mambo's Epsom classes launch, you will be able to attend by yourself.
Partner rotation is a normal part of salsa teaching because it helps you learn to dance with different people. If you only ever practise with one person, it's easy to memorise how that individual moves rather than learning how to lead or follow properly.
Coming alone is therefore completely normal. Salsa is also a naturally social activity, which makes it a good option if you're looking for something where meeting other people happens as part of the activity itself.
Do I need to have rhythm?
No. Some people naturally recognise musical timing more easily than others, but rhythm can be developed.
During your beginner salsa lessons, you'll start by learning how the salsa counts relate to the movement. At first you may rely heavily on the teacher's count. As you hear more salsa music and spend more time dancing, recognising the timing should become increasingly natural.
What should I wear to a salsa class?
You don't need specialist dancewear.
Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely. You'll probably get warmer than you expect, so lighter clothing or layers you can remove are useful.
For your first lesson, comfortable everyday shoes are normally fine. Ideally avoid extremely heavy or very grippy footwear because turning can become more difficult.
If you decide to continue learning salsa, you may eventually choose to buy proper dance shoes, but there is no need to spend money on specialist footwear before you've tried your first class.
How long does it take to learn salsa?
There's no fixed timescale because everyone learns differently.
Salsa involves several skills developing at the same time: timing, coordination, movement, memory, leading or following, connection and understanding the music.
The most important thing is consistency. Attending regularly gives each lesson a chance to build on the previous one.
You don't need to become an advanced dancer before you can enjoy salsa. Even with a relatively small number of movements, you can begin practising socially and gradually expand your dancing over time.
Why learn salsa locally in Epsom?
One of the biggest barriers to learning any new skill is simply making it convenient enough to do regularly.
Launching salsa classes in Epsom will mean you don't necessarily need to travel into central London every week just to learn or practise.
The aim is to develop a local Epsom community where people can learn, practise and socialise close to home. Until then, Inspire Mambo's existing weekly classes are already running in Sutton.
Before the Epsom launch.
What we can confirm now, and what will be announced before registration opens.
Where are the Epsom salsa classes?
The Epsom venue is still being confirmed. Join the interest list and we will send you the full address when it is ready.

The final class day and timetable have not yet been announced. Interest-list members will hear first.
Can complete beginners join?
Yes. The planned beginner class will be designed for people learning salsa from the fundamentals.
Do I need to bring a partner?
No. You can come alone. Partner rotation means you'll have people to practise with during the class.
Do I need salsa shoes?
Not for your first lesson. Comfortable footwear that allows you to move and turn reasonably easily is fine.
What should I bring?
Comfortable clothes, suitable shoes and a bottle of water are enough for your first salsa class.
Can I come if I have no dance experience?
Absolutely. You don't need previous dance training or salsa experience.
Is there time to practise?
Yes. The planned format includes practice and social time so you can begin using what you have learned.
